James Zantos

Principal Patent Agent
Owner and Founder of MMP

                - Career Path -
1) Machinist
     2) Professional Engineer
          3) USPTO Patent Agent

James' background in machining, engineering, and patent preparation gives him a multi-level strategic advantage over peer patent service providers.

He earned his Bachelor in Science in Environmental Engineering from Oregon State University, a school known for its industry-focused approach to engineering education. The environmental engineering program at OSU is a mix between mechanical engineering and civil engineering, with a secondary focus on chemical and biological processes.

While still in school James worked as a machinist operating CNC machines, Bridgeport table mills, lateral lathes, and other machine shop tools. After college James served as a pipeline hydraulics engineer in the oil and gas field, giving him field experience and system modeling skills related fluid transportation and rotating machinery. In 2016 James pivoted into the field of water and wastewater, with a similar focus on pipeline systems, pumps, instrumentation, and treatment facility processes.

In 2020 James branched out from engineering to pursue technical writing, which quickly evolved into patent application preparation (drafting an application) and prosecution (negotiating with the USPTO to get an application allowed). He soon became a registered USPTO patent agent (registration #81415) and later created the patent services agency Modern Method Patents.

In his free time James rides his motorcycle and spends afternoons at the dog park with his 8-year old shepherd mix named "Red."
